Cat's 26 toes help boost Milwaukee animal shelter

In Greendale, Wisconsin, a cat with 26 toes has helped the local animal shelter. He is an orange and white tabby named Daniel. Because of this cat, the nonprofit animal shelter is raising money to relocate to a new building. Normal cats have eighteen toes but Daniel has two extra toes on each foot. This is called polydactylism. I think that this is a really good thing for the cat and the animal shelter. My boss fostered a cat that had this condition and she named him Poly!

"Polar Express" derails in upstate NY; none hurt

In New York for Christmas, they have a "Polar Express" holiday train people can take a ride on. There were about 370 people on the train when three cars derailed. None of the passenger were hurt. The cars derailed right about the time it left the Utica station on Thursday. I think that was too bad this had to happen right before Christmas. I thought that having a holiday experience like this would be neat for kids to go on during the holidays, but since the article said that there were about 100 children on board, they were probably terrified afterward. Luckily no one was hurt!

Immigrants try Marine disguise to sneak across US border

In San Diego, California, thirteen immigrants diguised themselves and U.S. Marines in an attempt to get across the U.S. border. At the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint they were caught. Ten of the thirteen immigrants were sent back to Mexico. The Marine Corps officials said that the immigrants had exact U.S. Marine uniforms on and had the same haircut. I think that the people trying to do this were very stupid. I mean come on do they seriously think that they were going to get away with that? Apparently it was a very thought out plan.

4 dead in Sioux Falls small plane crash

A small plane crashed near the Sioux Falls airport and killed four people Friday. The plane took off from Joe Foss Field and was going to Rapid City, but the accident happened about right after take off. The article did not say how the crash happened. I think this is so sad to have happened. I love flying in planes and reading articles about plane crashes make me nervous to fly sometimes.

Hurricane Rina Gaining Strength in Caribbean

Hurricane Rina is just off of Mexico's coast and Central America's Caribbean coast. This Hurricane is a category 2 storm. Hurricane specialist, Michael Brennan, thinks that the hurricane could be moving toward Florida soon. Its winds are picking up and is going to become a major hurricane tuesday night. I think this is crazy that another hurricane is maybe going to be hitting the United States. There have been so many this year!

Nineteen Suspects Arrested Over Alleged Explosives

In Warsaw, Poland, 19 people were arrested on suspicion of producing and possessing explosives. In July, Anders Behring Breivik confessed to two attacks that were used with the same illegal production and sale of the explosives. I think that this is crazy and scary! People just producing explosives and selling them all around...good thing they got caught!

Kentucky Police Say Couple

In Louisville, Kentucky, a couple was caught shoplifting a cellphone and makeup from a Walmart. When they left the store they forgot their 3 year old and 18 month old behind. The man also tried to take a tablet computer and destroyed the attached display. The couple was charged with theft, criminal trespassing, and endangering the welfare of two minors. I think that this couple is so nuts! Are you seriously going to try and shoplift and then leave your children behind, come on people!
